  How many of you followed the WTS direction on education years ago and have been screwed by it?

  i'm really interested in this question because i've heard for years that if you forgo further education and go pioneering, when you have a family down the track you will get a good job because jehovah will provide for you because you pioneered.

  as long as i was a kool-aid drinker, even then, i thought, "how does pioneering pay your bills?

  surely education should come first.

  I left the witnesses many years ago so the JWs in my family don't tell me a whole lot of what is going on in their JW world and what I do hear is warped by their JW perspective. The following good example of that.

  Years ago I heard that my wife's cousin's daughter had ran away from home. I believe she was 15 or 16 at the time. Of course at the time they were saying it was because she was evil. I didn't know the reason behind it till recently when we came in contact with each other through facebook. It turns out that what had happened was that she was offered a college scholarship but her parents would allow her to take advantage of it because the end was near and they wanted her to pioneer. She loved school and really wanted to further her education. She was so upset that they wouldn't let her take advantage of the offer that she ran away from home.

  I'm hoping at some point she will join this forum and tell her story.

  Distrust and paranoia among faders

  hi guys.

  i'm interested in knowing whether any other faders out there ever find themselves feeling a little paranoid about establishing contact with other faders or former jws, just in case the unthinkable happens and things turn sour.. personally, i'm now fairly comfortable with the idea that i will be disfellowshipped or disassociated within the next year or so.

  i see it as inevitable, and an essential transition in order to do what i want to do with my life.

  Until you are ready to make a real commitment to getting out it is best to be cautious with who you share your information with because it all comes down very quickly once it gets in the hand of an active JW.

  i normally don't care when they hold their yearly anti-eucharist, anti-communion or whatever you want the damned thing but this year i'm going on vacation around that time.

  if it falls within my vacation time i think my wife will want to go somewhere and attend it and that would suck but we could work it out.. .

  The problem with your idea Emery is that it would involve having to go inside a KH and actually attend the meet. I have no desire to ever step in one again. I've only done it once since leave and that was for a funeral about 5 years ago.

  Stewards = not women

  Positions of great trust = is that why no women qualify?

  Loyal Christians who are not overseers = only men,never women?

  What gifts are women viewed as having = cleaning, cooking, child raising?

  Like any organization that doesn't view women as equals they are shooting themselves in the foot. They are like an engine firing on only half its cylinders. In their case I think it is a good thing. Let them stumble on with their antiquated ideas and hopefully they will eventually fade away.

  Nice video and song Talesin. I don't think there is any one reason. Heaven hit on one of them. Maybe the majority of the human race is insane. Look how we go about killing each other in wars. Whatever the reasons we can all take small steps to make this planet a better place for all life forms.

  Hey Designs, That event in San Clemente sounds pretty cool. I'd like to hear Ed Begley Jr speak. I'll see if I can make it. It is something my wife would even like to go to. I've got a DVD with Ed Begley Jr on it "Farm to Fridge". Quite the eye opener on the abuses the animals we eat go through. It is available to watch online at: http://meatvideo.com/ I don't recommend watching it at dinner time.
